Tesla, Elon Musk's electric vehicle company, has been ordered by a German court to purchase back a Model 3 vehicle from a customer who filed a complaint about how disappointed he was with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package—which includes Autopilot features—and how it drove like a "drunk first-time driver."

Tesla recently lost a dispute at Darmstadt Regional Court, according to the auto-tech website Electrek, in which the court ordered Tesla to buy back the plaintiff's Model 3.

"Automatically overtaking slower vehicles on the freeway, for example, did not work. At highway entrances and exits, or at motorway intersections, the steering behaviour is spongy and mimics that of a "drunk beginner driver." No traffic signals or stop signs are recognized, "Spiegel was cited in the study.

Meanwhile, Tesla maintains that there is no issue with the vehicle and that the functions will be provided in the future via software updates, but does not specify when, according to the report.

"With regards to the process, the US group maintains that it is unaware of any software or hardware issues on the vehicle that could not be repaired," the company was cited as saying.

According to Tesla, the necessary hardware change would have been free. The systems and features operated as expected and in conformity with Germany's current autonomous driving legislation, it was added.
